Health Education Presentations
Hui Mālama Ola Nā ‘Ōiwi's Community Wellness Program provides services throughout Hawaiʻi Island. Our five office locations allow us to establish a presence in our major communities. Community Wellness represents collaborative efforts within a community to enhance the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual status of our neighborhoods. Presentations are given in schools, businesses, and community groups.
Hui Mālama Ola Nā ‘Ōiwi is a resource for those who are challenged by cancer. From oncology referrals to insurance issues, our certified Cancer Patient Navigators can provide the most current information available to help clients and their families make informed decisions concerning all aspects of their cancer care. Navigators trained under the ‘Imi Hale Patient Navigator model help clients and their families overcome barriers to cancer care by providing individualized assistance to patients, survivors, and families.
E Mālama I Ka Pu‘uwai (Taking Care of the Heart) is our six week heart and stroke educational program incorporating guidance from the American Heart Association and the National Heart and Lung Institute. Our program will help you develop skills to koho pololei (make the right choices) in managing your high blood pressure and to mālama (take care of) yourself.
The course consists of six sessions, each two hours long. The class meets once a week and provides hypertension and stroke education to help increase your knowledge about risk factors, signs and symptoms, and complications and treatments. Our goal is to help you reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack.
Hele Mai ʻAi (Come Eat)
Hele Mai'Ai (Come Eat) is our three week basic nutrition class that gives you the necessary tools to make healthy food choices. This class was created in conjunction with the Hawaii state department of health and visually enhanced by the staff of Hui Malama Ola Na 'Oiwi.
The course consists of three class sessions, each two hours long. The class meets once a week for three weeks, and covers seven different modules utilizing a standardized curriculum. The class uses powerful visuals to show the fat, salt and sugar amounts in our island's typical diet (including fast foods and traditional Hawaiian foods.)
Community Wellness Program
This provides services throughout Hawaiʻi Island. Our five office locations allow us to establish a presence in our major communities. Community Wellness represents collaborative efforts within a community to enhance the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual status of our neighborhoods. They also create presentations in schools, businesses, and community groups concerning nutrition, and tobacco awareness and cessation.
